Detritus

Detritus is one of Andy's older systems, an Acorn A5000 dating back to around 1992, with the following specification:

• General Acorn stuff
  • ARM-3 RISC processor, running at 25MHz
  • 4MB RAM, 2MB ROM containing Acorn's RISC OS 3.11 Operating System
  • 700MB IDE and 120MB SCSI Hard Disc Space
  • HCCS SCSI Card & Double-speed CD-ROM drive
  • State Machine G8+ Video Card
  • SVGA monitor
• Aleph-1 PC card
  • Intel 386sx-20 processor
  • 4MB of dedicated RAM
  • MS-DOS 6.22 :-(
  • Windows For Workgroups 3.11 :-(
  • Uses the Acorn monitor, keyboard and all drives.
• ARM Linux
  • ARM Linux for the A5000, kernel revision 1.3.35
  • Uses Acorn peripherals and RAM.

This setup is roughly equivalent to a 486/40 with 8MB in terms of speed, as the RISC processor was quite advanced when it was new. There is an advantage with memory, as the complete Operating System is run from ROM.
